Accu-Chek glucose meters have become very popular on the on the market. Although not free, these meters are very inexpensive and compact whilst being very precise. The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus is one such meter and it can be bought for just $19.99 at Amazon.com.
The meter has a holder where to keep the lancet making it is rather difficult to lose it. Another plus for this meter is that test strips are stored in the meter itself (at least 17 test strips are stored inside), saving you from having to reload a test strip every time you want to take a glucose meter reading. Having the test strips stored in the meter is also beneficial, since there is less possibility of contamination the test strips by dirty hands or otherwise.
In order to carry out the test, you just need to adjust the depth of the lancet penetration (usually 11 depth settings are available) and prick your finger in order to obtain a very tiny drop of blood. Apart from your finger, Accu-Chek glucose meters allow you to obtain blood from other five positions in your body. The positions are the following: fingertips, palm, forearm, upper arm, thigh or calf. This way you will be sure that you do not scar any part of your body.
When the meter is turned on, it shows the date, time and the last blood glucose meter reading. Accu-Chek meter readings are easily legible, even in dark conditions and the reading are obtained very fast (in just about five) seconds. This meter also provides you with a 7 day average meter reading results.
These meters also allow you to upload data to your computer or PDA. This way you will not lose any of the test results. Last but not least, Accu-Chek glucose meters come with batteries, a user manual as well as a quick reference guide.
