Bayer Contour USB Meter is a glucose meter that is capable of conneting directly to your PC via a USB socket. In this way you can download the information straight to your PC. This device is presently the only blood sugar meter that is integrated with a USB socket.
This meter is very simple to use and it does not require any coding. In order to use the meter, you are required to install the GLUCOFACTS DELUXE diabetes management software. This software runs of Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 and also on Mac OS X version 10.5.7 and 10.5.8.
The meter contains two flash drives: GLUCOFACTS and CONTOUR USB. The GLUCOFACTS drive contrains a series of files and it is important not to delete any files from this drive. Having said this, in case of accidental file deletion or otherwise, it is still possible to download the software from the web.
The software requires Java 1.6 or higher in order to function properly. In case your PC does not have Java installed or in case you current version of Jave is older that version 1.6, you can install the latest version from the GLUCOFACTS drive or else you can download the latest version from the web. Acrobat reader is also required in order to view the user guides that come with the USB meter.
If your PC is running Windows XP, then the software runs automatically as soon as you connect the meter to the USB drive. If your PC is running Windows Vista, then you need to ensure that the autoplay setting is enabled in the control panel. The software does not run automatically on Windows 7 and requires the user to doulbme click on the Glucofacts.bat file on the GLUCOFACTS drive in order to run the software. If you are using a Mac, then you need to run the software from the desktop.
It is recommended to register the glucose meter with Bayer’s site. In this way you are entitled to download software updates from the web as soon as they are available. Updates are checked automatically every 7 days.
This glucose meter has a bright display which is very easy to read. It comes with a USB extension and with a wall charger. This glucose meter is very accurate and it only requires a little amount of blood (possibly less than competing brands) in order to carry out the test successfully. Results are also given very fast, on the order of 5 seconds.
